Please help with my spanish question…articles?
In spanish, sometimes they use “el” and “la” infront of nouns but sometimes they don’t.
I remember someone saying you have to always include the el/la infront of the noun.
Is this right? or does it depend on how the noun/word is used?
Ex> Ella tiene el cabello rubio. VERSUS El tiene bigote marron.
Wow that’s a good question! I speak spanish and I never did it to myself.
But I guess is because I speak it since childhood.
Your examples are ok.
You can say “Ella tiene el cabello rubio” or “Ella tiene cabello rubio”.
and “Él tiene bigote marrón” or “Él tiene el bigote marrón”
But you have to put it when you say
“Dame la libreta” (Give me the notebook)
In elementary school we learn that the “definite article” (artículo determinado: el, la, los, las) makes the noun more concrete… I mean particular… something definite.
For example: When I talk to my brother and I say “Fui a la librería y compre el libro” (I went to the bookstore and I buy the book) it means that we know about wich book are we talking about. Probably I showed him the book before or I talked him about it.
And if I say: “Fui a la librería y compre un libro” (I went to the bookstore and I buy a book)
“un” is an “indefinite article” (artículo indeterminado: Un, una, unos, unas)
when I say “un libro” it means that he don’t know which book I’m talking about.
For example if I say:
“El perro me mordió” (The dog bit me) means he knows which dog I’m refering to.
If I say “Un perro me mordió” (A dog bit me) he doesn’t know wich dog.
Also in school we learn that there is a sintaxis or estructure for the sentences.
Article + noun + complements(adjectives) + verb + complements
La casa azul está abandonada. (The blue house is abandoned)
but then we learned is ok change the orden of the words.
Está abandonada la casa azul.

“Ella es maestra” (She is a teacher)
“Ella estudia psicología” (She studies psychology)
“Él es actor” (He is an actor)
but you put it here
“El actor ganó un premio”. (The actor won an award)

2010-2011 AP Spanish Lit junior year help?
I took AP Spanish Lang last year as a sophomore and got a 5. I’m a native speaker. (But still shocking because I got a 4 on the Psych exam and thought it was wwwaaaaayyyy easier).
I’m taking APSpanLit right now and it’s kind of frustrating because I have to know rhetorics and stuff but I can’t take English Lang til senior year so I don’t know rhetoric stuff. Can you guys give me some input and help on this? I’m worried about this exam and people are like “Hey I see you’re a big spanish genius!” so I don’t want to let anyone down by scoring a 3 or lower. Can you give me some tips on this exam and how to pass the class? btw, it’s self-teach. I’m in a closet reading the textbook while the teacher teaches AP Spanish Lang to the other students. the best way is to research on RHETORIC. and pay some attention to teacher. she may give some hints on something. u’re a smart dude. so go for it. library has more books on sp lit. divide time meaningfully between work, study, fun etc. have a clear mind. avoid coffee,smoke. sleep well. sounds odd but believe it, it will work. all the best
