Spanish Project-Mexican Origin, Foods?
I have to do a project for spanish 1(espanol uno) and I need some help! I was assigned to pick a food that had spanish origin, the food can be anything from tortilla’s to Frito pie’s/taco’s and sopapilla’s, just any mexican origin food’s, Im not sure what to do-if you have a food in mind please list it if you know of a site that gives history and basically who invented it, how to prepare it and the ingredents, the only thing that has to be in spanish is the ingredients-(because we are learning food and that’s why we got this project)-so i can do that myself so you dont have to translate it for me. also for extra credit we can make the food bring it in for the class to eat-if we like-if you have a food that’s simple quick and easy to make(and cheap) list it, I guess all im asking for is a mexican origin food(anything) and a site that i can get how to make it and its history. thanks in advance!
There is a subtle difference between Spanish food and Mexican food and very few people seem to make this discernible.
Mexican food is basically, down to earth with heavily peppered foods served with tortillas, beans and rice.
Spanish food is a bit more tangible created from spices and a mixture of fruits and a lot of sea food,lamb or chicken.
Start with something simple that everyone will enjoy! I don’t know how many people you have to feed or if they are going to be just tasting?.. so we’ll do the later!
1. cup of rice (white long grain)
2. one small sweet onion (chopped finely)
3. 2.5 cups of either Chicken broth or Beef broth
4. 1 large Chicken breast or Lamb chop (cut into small peices)
5. 1 6oz can of black figs (chopped finely) you may substitute dried figs just soak them in a bit of sugar water over night to soften them.
6. 1 spicey pepper (roasted, chopped finely) you can choose which ever pepper you wish. Jalapeno or Habenaro.
7. Some salt ( your broth will be salty so be certain to taste your creation before adding more)
8. 3 Table spoons of olive oil
9. 1/4 tsp. Tumeric
Saute in olive oil the rice and Onion in a skillet until the rice is golden and the onions are almost none existent. Add, your meat to the rice mixture and heat until nearly cooked. Add, your remaining ingredients and cover. Stir ingredients until incorporated nicely. Simmer this on low until rice is tender.
1. Sprig of Cillantro
2. 4 cherry tomatoes (halved)
Place rice on plate garnish with Cillantro and Tomatoes. Serve.
