Living in Madrid – Spain (salary question)?
I have been offered a financial controller & planner position at a Spanish company and will be relocating to Madrid, Spain in a few months. The company is arranging the permits & visa at the moment but I was wondering if I did a good job at negotiating. The offer is €32,000/year gross. Their accountant told me that is about €2,100/month net. I have double degrees in Finance/Management + M.S. in Finance. I am not very experienced though, just 1 year. So my question is whether I will be able to continue my standard of living in Madrid… I rent a 1 bedroom apartment in Washington DC at the moment and it is $1,200 per month. How much should I expect to pay for accommodation?
Thanks …
To start: 32K is approx 1950-2000 net each month split over 14 payments (extra payment in June and December).
Accomodation is available for rent and you´ll find yourself paying between 750 and 900 Euros each month for a one bed apartment. Although they are ALOT smaller than in the US. Be prepared to work hard though. A controller position invloves a lot of stress and not a little diplomacy. You´ll have to curtail a little your ahem… good ideas. Here the boss is the boss and its a very autocratic style of management.
One thing you´ll need to investigate is the “homologacion” of your titles. Try this for more info: http://www.madrid-guide-spain.com/spanish-education-equivalent.html
This may not be necessary from the off but to sign various bank guarantees it will be required.
Now judging from your description your standard of living will be determined by how much you drink!!! After all Madrid is one of the worlds party towns!

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: The City of Brotherly Love
On Saturday, May 3, 2003 we made a reconnaissance of Philadelphia today. Philadelphia is not Ford F350 Double truck. The streets are very narrow, but most attractions are within walking distance of partitions, the transport authority Regional.
He drove to Philadelphia to visit the Philadelphia Museum of Art, an imposing building in Fairmount Park, one of largest urban parks in the country. We arrived on time the museum opened its doors for us to find a parking space. There was nothing. We were lucky to find about half a mile away in one of the side streets. The museum has been holding a special exhibition Degas and dance. If having a ticket to see the exposure time. The former were available at 4:30 p.m., just six hours away. We made a pitch for two of Degas.
We started visiting the museum exhibition French Impressionist my favorite. I made a surprising discovery looking landscapes by Claude Monet. I saw many of his paintings in my life. While viewing a landscape, I began to pitch right left. Voila! The painting appears in three dimensions. It literally blew my mind. I never noticed before.
The museum many good things. They have a large collection of Marcel Duchamp, a native of Philadelphia. Represent the well Dada. Another highlight of his collection is the reconstruction of fairs of Europe and the United States. Finally, the collection of armor and weapons mainly from the Holy Roman Empire, namely Germany today.
Our next stop was the home of Edgar A. Poe. He lived in Philadelphia for six years with his wife. There he wrote "The Black Cat" and other stories and poems. The winery is described in his story is similar to that of their home. The house itself is sterile, with furniture and wall coverings and the ground. A room in the center is decorated as Poe describes in his essay, "The Philosophy of Furniture. "
Led the short distance to the Shrine of St. John Neumann. The church is very simple and acts as the parish local area.
Finally, a trip to Philadelphia Philly Cheesesteak must include the original restaurant, Pat fillets. It's in Little Italy corner of 9 federal and Passyunk. Pat Cheesesteaks up to its reputation: Yum! Yum! Yum!
Led to Marcus Hook to take the train SEPTA R2 Philadelphia. Parking is only $ 0.50 on their luck. The train ride from downtown Philadelphia is $ 4.25 off-peak hours for adults and $ 1.00 for seniors (Not a bad deal). SEPTA prints its own newspaper for travelers. Most news comes from Reuters. In the course of 25 miles of the city that were approved by Amtrak trains five, including two high-speed trains. Really go fast. From what we heard, it is a corridor busiest Amtrak and a real money machine.
Our train made many stops on the road. Most notable are the City of Chester was once a thriving port city, but now has the reputation of being avoided. We do not know if it's true. From the station the two statements are plausible. The train also stops at the University of Pennsylvania, a conglomerate of several other universities), the station Amtrak, on the west bank of the river Skuykill (Skoo-kill), the main shopping district, and finally, East Market Street, Calle 11, the historic district.
Our first stop was the visitor center, a new building under construction on the market and 5. Independence Concert Hall needs time to recover Tickets, which are free. We knew that to be long lines, when we saw more than one hundred fifth graders Hopewell NJ, spinning on the sidewalk. Our trip was planned for noon. It was not until 10:30. We had time to kill.
Across the street is the Liberty Market Bell. Security is as strong as in the construction of capital in Washington DC. I've never seen so many armed guards. This was not the kind of teacher, but the security forces. He was serious. It reminds me of the soldiers who stand guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington Cemetery.
The Liberty Bell, as is now known, began as the bells of the city at the Penn State Legislature. Steeped in Whitechapel, London England, which sounded gloriously for many years, even that day in early July 1776, when the upstart colony separated from his sovereign the King George III. For many years, has been loud and clear. One day, a crack developed. It was easy to repair (only expand with the drilling holes and installing a bolt to prevent chafing). Here, it rang. In the 100 th anniversary of the birth of George Washington, citizens Peale wanted all day. Around noon, the bell has sounded funny. Another crack has developed. This time he was terminally ill and therefore horizontal. Instead of melting and casting in the pots and pans, it was recorded. Why? At the top of the bell was inscribed with a verse from Leviticus: "To proclaim liberty to all corners of the earth." This was the rallying cry of the abolitionist and is still today a symbol of our nation. It was not a bell in the city rose to a national symbol.
A block is located south of the Plaza de la Independencia. Visiting a half-hour Independence Hall emphasis in two rooms: the courtroom and the Assembly Hall, the Second Continental Congress met and discussed the strong desire for independence. The room rebuilt to reflect the physical appearance and in 1776. The only survivor of the existing furniture is the chair President, representing a rising sun in the back. Ben Franklin said that the decoration is often looked and thought: "Is it a sun or sunset?
To the right of Independence Hall is the former city hall, where the Supreme Court residing 1791-1800. During two months, the judges met. The other time he rode the circuit throughout the young nation. It was a stressful life.
Left fron of. U.S. Senate and House of Representatives met until the capital was completed in Washington. And Senate chambers were richer.
A suggestion to visit the Plaza Independencia: visit at the end of the day to visit the room. The masses fell sharply after 01:00. The Old Town Hall closes at 01:00 every day. The rooms of the Senate at the Palais des Congres open at 1:00. So schedule accordingly.
A few steps away is the cemetery of Christ Church, where Benjamin Franklin and his wife are buried. The cemetery was closed for many years due to general deterioration. Members of the Church of Christ have been restored to its former glory and is once again open to the public.
Down the street is the home of Betsy Ross, a widowed mother three times in seven years, is remembered for sewing the first stars and stripes. His house is typical of a modest middle-class boats per day.
Not to be missed is Elfreth Alley, just one block away. Here is the cobbled street is bordered on both sides of 33 houses craft still holds. Near the eastern end of the alley is a narrow street called Court of Bladen. At the end is the local water pump. One of the homes have balconies, and the South, where the ladies sew on a hot summer day.
Elfreth's Alley Next Fireman Hall. Entering from the rear of the building, you enter the world of struggle against fire, Colonial and styles later. Lovingly assembled and led by members of the Philadelphia Fire Department, is a tribute to the work. fire trucks dating seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, the tools used to fight against fires, and many objects illustrating the history of fighting against fire in Philadelphia. They have erected a monument to the heroes of 9-11. One firefighter said that in 300 years of the Philadelphia Fire Department, 302 men gave their lives. In the World Trade Center, more than three hundred men died in just three hours. We learned a tradition still carried on unsuspecting beginners. The Saturday, they washed the wheels of fire trucks. The reason is that the radios were made of wood covered with a metal ring. If the wheels do not wash the wood to be reduced and the output edge. This is not a problem today. But the work is honest yet delivered.
On the way back to the station we stopped at the former Quaker Meeting House. Here are the Society of Friends met and are still in the practice of religious freedom. Despite the peace, with the support War of Independence.
We decided today that we spent the day on Hill of society and we are very pleased with our decision. He had first visited the Church of Christ, where Ben Franklin and Samuel Morse (The richest man in Philadelphia) received this service. The Second Continental Congress passed several days in prayer in this church during its deliberations. Some of the original furnishings, with over two hundred and fifty years.
Society Hill reflected the atmosphere of Colonial and the principles of nationality. narrow tree lined streets, hidden lanes, parks, small stain in the region. Walking the streets is to enter a quieter time. We passed a tavern in the city, attended by many delegates of my Congress. Even today, Lunch and dinner are served in the same room as Thomas Jefferson, George Washington and John Hancock attended. We had to stay there and test the George Washington and Thomas Jefferson Ale, Porter, both of their personal recipes. This was the highlight of the day, sitting in the garden of the pub by drinking the beverage is excellent and realize that other great men have done the same as us mere mortals.
A few blocks south of the tavern is the pension Ms. Ann Relf. Here Thaddeus Kosciuszko (pronounced KOS-Select-KO and KOS-EE-OOS-KO) lived in a room on the second small apartment after his return to his "Second country" after being exiled from his homeland Poland. Who is he? Perhaps only the greatest generals of the Revolutionary War. As a young man of thirty years, came to Philadelphia to offer his services to the new nation. His first task was to build fortresses to protect Philadelphia. They were so formidable that the British would not attack them. After he was named Engineer of the armies of the North. Has the strategy and the walls of the Battle of Saratoga, considered by some as one of the ten best fights ever in world history. The revolutionaries, who manned by experienced senior British forces have won the attention of French and spanish who later supported the new nation. It was Then accused, to enhance the Hudson River downstream. He designed the building of the Rock of Gibraltar in the U.S. in West Point, which stopped all thought the British invasion of New York. His name was Jones or Grant or Lee or Riley was known as one of the greatest generals of all time. Even General Washington had trouble remembering his name. He said: "Colonel Kosciuszko do you mind if I call you Koscian Colonel." He was a good friend of Thomas Jefferson and spent many hours of discussion with others, perhaps talk to three or four different languages during the night. Return to Poland after the war, burning passion for freedom that led the Polish peasants against the Russians, and empires Austio Hungarian revolt. And who was severely wounded and imprisoned. Virtually paralyzed returned to Philadelphia in the middle of a heroic tumultuous welcome. At the age of 71 years died in Switzerland.
Old Catholic Santa Maria, the Church of Christ, went to the Constitutional Convention meets frequently to pray. Both churches are completely different: the Church of Christ is light and airy to allow inner world of Santa Maria is dark, with lots of glass acting as a refuge against the outside world. Both are beautiful, and historic and. The cemeteries hold the remains of Commodore John Barry, Father U.S. Navy.
Franklin Court, where Market Street is the place where Ben Franklin lived and worked. The house does not stay, but the area was built to reflect its time. Various exhibits illustrate the life and inventions.
In Carpenter's Hall, site of the first Congress Continental, we have a Ranger on a tour of the house of Todd and Bishop White House (open Wednesday through Sat round only with tickets from the Visitor Centre). The Todd House is a representation of a residence in the middle class. John Todd, a Quaker lawyer, lived there with his wife, Dolley, Dolley Madison's future, President's wife. According to John Todd died of yellow fever, was wooed or courted by James Dolley Madison. From prim and proper Quaker, became the senior Washington society, whose reputation as everyone knows.
Bishop White House next, is an example of a rich Philadelphia. Rector of the Church of Christ and therefore the church of San Pedro is the first Episcopal bishop in the United States. The halfway house between two churches have a large basement and a cellar. Their lifestyle is very different from the conservative Quakers.

Promised Land [CD-ROM] Queensryche’s follow-up to the double-platinum Empire is something of an acquired taste, but it’s well worth the effort. There’s considerable variety here; the heavy progressive-rock of “I Am I” and the ballad “Bridge” were hit singles, but there’s also the funk-inflected “Disconnected”, the edgy, spooky “Lady Jane”, and the piano-and-vocals “Someone Else?”. The title track is probably the stronge… |
